Oslo, Norway: 31 July 2012: CAMO Software, makers of multivariate data analysis software, have announced two of their leading scientists will be giving an invited lecture and workshop at the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) annual meeting, SciX.
The Great Scientific Exchange conference, or SciX, will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, from September 30th to October 5th, 2012.
Dr Frank Westad and Dr Katherine Bakeev from CAMO Software will hold a lecture entitled "Hierarchical models: adding logic to data-driven results" on Wednesday October 3rd.
A Hierarchical Model is a collection of prediction and classification models organized in a logical sequence, allowing pre-defined rules to be applied to complex data using a decision tree approach.
For example, a global classification or prediction model may not be able to distinguish uniquely between two materials, so a Hierarchical Model can be developed to identify ambiguities and then use a next level of classification or prediction models, different from the global model, to resolve the ambiguities.
Hierarchical models are powerful tools in resolving ambiguous classification or prediction situations, such as in raw material analysis. They take the guess work out of operator decisions, enabling real-time quality control at the point of manufacture and help companies detect process faults in a timely manner.
Dr. Katherine Bakeev will also hold a separate workshop at SciX entitled "Hands-On Chemometric Analysis with The Unscrambler® X" on Tuesday October 2nd.
